Welcome to Italy Report, the most comprehensive website on Italian wines in the world. In Italy Report I expand the scope of my coverage on Italian wines from my original newsletter, Piedmont Report, which was first published in 2004. With its multitude of regions, microclimates and varietals, Italy produces an extraordinary range of wines that is among the most diverse being made anywhere. It has long been my belief that Italian wines haven’t received the kind of in-depth critical coverage which consumers can readily find on the wines of France and the Unites States. In Italy Report I take an in-depth look at the wines of the country through a series of articles focused on specific regions, producers and wines. These articles are designed to complement and enhance my work in The Wine Advocate.Click here to read a sample article.
With so many outstanding wines released every year all over the world, wine criticism has logically tended to focus on wines currently available in the marketplace. When I first published Piedmont Report I wanted to create a new kind of wine criticism, one that looked at current releases, but that also revisited past vintages to see if initial assessments of wines and/or vintages had proven to be accurate. With Vintage Retrospectives I take a look at how the wines from important vintages are developing in the cellar. I will also report on Vertical Tastings which focus on one or more wines from a single producer spanning multiple vintages. These tastings allow us to better understand how a producer’s style is expressed through a series of vintages, all of which present their own unique opportunities and challenges. From time to time I will also write about other special events that are of interest.
My notes from Piedmont Report have been added to the eRobertParker.com database, making this the most authoritative and comprehensive source for current tasting notes on the wines of Italy, including extensive coverage of the most collectible wines. All of my past Piedmont Report articles and previously published tasting notes are also available on this site, as are my Hedonists’s Gazette pieces. Lastly, for in-depth discussion on the wines of Italy, be sure to explore the Italy Report Forum.
